pain management with acupuncture

Pain Management

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are very effective in treating pain naturally.

There are many possible causes for pain to occur, including strained muscles or ligaments, often caused for improper movements or traumatic injuries. Other culprits can include arthritis, structural abnormalities.

In a study conducted at a Swedish hospital, doctors concluded that acupuncture provided long-term relief along with improvements in physical activity levels and the diminished use of pain medication.

In your first session with me I will assess where is the pain, what is causing it and I will use techniques of TCM and acupuncture to alleviate your pain for a lasting period of time. Unlike other treatments, which are focused on treating the masses, acupuncture treatment plans are patient centered, offering you a personalised treatment plan to deal with your own specific pain issues.

Back Pain

Back pain can take over your whole life—waking up, going to work, sitting at your desk, commuting, and many other everyday activities can seem impossible when your dealing with mild or severe back pain. Unfortunately, back pain is very common and affects just about everyone. Studies have shown that nearly eight out of 10 people will experience back pain at some point in life.

If you’ve been dealing with back pain, whether mild or severe, it’s time to try something new.

Relief for Knee Pain Caused by Arthritis and Overuse

As with some other joints, the knee takes its fair share of abuse. This potentially leads to wear and tear as well as injuries to the knee. Arthritis of the knee is not uncommon. In fact, researchers reviewing research from studies on osteoarthritis of the knee and the effect of acupuncture to treat knee pain call knee pain “A major cause of disability among adults,” also saying that arthritis of the knee is “most frequently associated with disability.”

Overuse of the knee, affecting those involved in sports, specific types of employment, and other types of activities, also potentially contribute to knee pain.

Traditional treatment for knee pain often includes anti-inflammatory medication as well as pain medications and physical therapy, with varying results. However, results show that acupuncture offers relief to individuals suffering from knee pain without side-effects.

Shoulder Pain

In the majority of cases, neck and shoulder pain is a caused by either an injury to the area or overuse.

Shoulder Pain Caused by Injury

If your neck and shoulder pain is caused by an injury, the focus of your treatment will be on helping the body recover from the injury as quickly and completely as possible. Aiding your body’s natural healing process will make your recovery time shorter and will lessen the chance of this injury becoming a chronic issue.

Shoulder Pain Caused by Overuse

If your neck and shoulder pain is caused by overuse, the treatment will likely focus on relaxing knots and tension in the area that is affected. Once the knots are released we focus on restoring the free flow of blood and oxygen to the area to facilitate longer-term healing. It is important to note that acupuncture is not magic - if you sit at a computer all day (by far the most common cause of chronic neck and shoulder pain), it is likely your neck and shoulder pain will come back a couple of weeks after the treatment.

Therefore, I also make stretch routines and education part of the treatment. This preventative stretching will often serve to keep the pain away for the long term.
